Antioxidant activity of the exudate from Aloe barbadensis leaves in diabetic rats
نویسنده
چکیده
The effects of the exudate of Aloe barbadensis leaves on oxidative stress and some antioxidant status of streptozotocin induced diabetic rats were studied. There was significant reduction in scavenging enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and significant increase in signs of oxidative tissue damage, such as lipid peroxidation products (plasma MDA) in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Treatment with Aloe barbadensis (150mg/kg) increased antioxidant enzymes like SOD activities and significantly reduced lipid peroxidation products. This study shows that high blood sugar leads to increased oxidative stress and that exudates of Aloe barbadensis leaves possessed antioxidant activity as shown by increased scavenging SOD activity and decreases in lipid peroxidation products levels.

Background and Aim: Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) and Teucrium (Teucrium polium) are used in traditional medicine as anti-diabetic herbs. The present study examined the effects of TP and aloe vera extracts on some metabolites like glucose, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL and triglycerides in streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental research, fort...

(1)Aloe-Barbadensis Mill (Liliaceae) is used in the traditional medicine of Mexico and other countries for anti-inflammatory and cosmetic purposes (Diez-Martinez 1981, Grindlay and Reynolds 1986). Two components are obtained from the fresh leaves of Aloe-Barbadensis, a bitter yellow juice (exudate), which drains from the transversally cut leaves used as a laxative (Ishii et al 1990) and a mucil...

Background: Diabetes is a metabolic disease that is associated with hyperglycemia and infertility. Previous studies indicate that aloe vera may positively affect the blood glucose and fertility. Objective: the present study was carried out to evaluate effect of aloe vera on serum oxidant/antioxidant activity and reproductive hormones following experimental diabetes. Methods: sixty adults male ...
متن کاملEvaluation of in vitro and in vivo antioxidant potential of polysaccharides from Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) gel.
In the present study, the antioxidant activity of the polysaccharides from aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) gel was evaluated, in vitro by five established methods, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH(-)) radical scavenging, nitric oxide (NO) scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging, superoxide radical (O(-2)) scavenging and reducing power assay, and in vivo against doxorubicin (DOX)-induced...
متن کاملIn vitro antioxidant effects of Aloe barbadensis Miller extracts and the potential role of these extracts as antidiabetic and antilipidemic agents on streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic model rats.
In this study, the total phenolic and flavonoid contents, the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ability and the ferric reducing power (FRAP) of Aloe vera were measured to determine the antioxidant activity of this species. The in vivo antidiabetic effects of the plant were also investigated using streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic model rats that were divided into fi...
